John Edward Pignatore, age 80, of Horseheads, passed away on Saturday, October 17, 2020 at Robert Packer Hospital.

John was born on August 31, 1940 in Manhattan, New York City. John is survived by his four nieces, two nephews, and their spouses. John was predeceased by his brothers, Russell and James Pignatore.

John was predeceased by the “Love of his Life” Ann Louise Corson Pignatore, and his parents James and Ruth Pignatore. John and Ann met as freshmen at Susquehanna University. As a younger man John was a summer stock Shakespearean actor. Later in life he enjoyed an occasional trip to a casino.

John was a charismatic person and enjoyed eating out and spending time with his family and many friends. He served for fourteen years as President and CEO of Corning Hospital, retiring in 2000. He was involved in many community organizations and activities. He never wanted to meet anyone without learning their name and something of their story.

It was John's wish that there be no formal services.

Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service, 17 W. Pulteney St., Corning has been entrusted with the arrangements.

I met John in the summer of 1976- when he was the Administrative Director of Rehab @ SJH- and he hired me to work in the speech and hearing dept. John had nicknames for folks he enjoyed being around, and I became "The Caper" due it taking me three days to finally arrive from NYC to start work due to car trouble; and the nickname stuck for the next 44 years. my wife and I kept in touch with John and Anne usually going to one of their favorite restaurants - Texas Roadhouse- and we did this every Christmas for many years- and after Anne's passing, we were able to get John to meet us again for the past two years- John was an extremely private individual-- but he was always, always there for you if you were in need-
there was no one that could make me laugh harder than John with his stories- He will be deeply missed- but Sheila and I do take solace that he is now back together with the love of his life- sweet Anne--
And it is my fervent hope that the gambling tables treat him well-

To John's family: please accept our sincerest condolences. He will be forever missed, and John will always have a very special place in our hearts.

John came to Corning Hospital the month after I started. When he became President and CEO in 1986 I transferred and worked for him all those 14 years. He was a caring, smart, funny and truly gentle man. He was the best boss I have ever had. He made work fun. He knew everyone and everyone knew him. He was a huge part of why, back then, Corning Hospital was family. He had nicknames for some of us that followed us even after he retired. I am comforted knowing he is reunited with Ann, his bride. It is with a heavy heart that I say Rest In Peace JP. Love - “The Contessa” (and Tom, Kim, Becky and Lauren)
