Obituary

On Tuesday morning, March 17th, 2020, Victor A. Nemard left this world. Born on July 1, 1958 in Manhattan, to Victor and Mildred Nemard, Sr. Beginning life in New York, the Nemard family moved from Park Avenue to Summit Avenue in the town of Dumont, New Jersey. There he graduated from Dumont High School and completed his education at William Patterson University.

Since 1996, Victor has managed the Museum Shops and was the Senior Merchandising Manger at the Corning Museum of Glass. He facilitated the redesign of the retail space during the Museum’s 2001 renovation, creating one of the largest museum gift shops in the United States, with eight boutiques of glass shopping. Prior to joining The Corning Museum of Glass, he was a Product Manager for the museum and nature shops of Frederick Atkins and an associate buyer with Macy’s Northeast and other major department stores.

He is survived by his son, Hunter Nemard, wife, Penny Nemard, partner, Steven Hovis, sisters, Renee Nemard and Deborah Richardson, and nieces, Lauren (Raymond) Nemard-Grier, Courtney Nemard, Crystal Lake, and Stanaisha Richardson. Predeceased by his parents, Victor and Mildred Nemard Sr.

There is going to be a private service at Phillips Funeral Home & Cremation Service on Sunday, March 22, 2020 due to the current circumstances occurring at this present time.

Victor will be laid to eternal rest at Woodlawn Cemetery and Conservancy in Bronx, New York City.

Victor's easy sophistication, accessible warmth, impeccable aesthetic, quietly fierce determination, strength, resilience and unrelenting drive put him in a class of his own. World class, not only in his prodigious prowess, but his keen understanding of how to make things happen and to manage people. He evinced cool and will be mourned not only for his skills, insights and talents, but for the way he made you feel -- a collaborator, a colleague, connected and good. He knew how to listen, how to hold and make space, when to move forward, when to stay still. He was constantly learning. Open hearted, broad minded and brilliant with a steady radiance of spirit. He was a fabulous colleague who, when we worked together, aided and abetted my efforts and so there was a multiplier effect, all was made better. He went from strength to strength with the steady press of years and his determination to make CMOG the ever glorious destination. I join all the mourners in mourning this profound loss to the institution, to the community, to our lives. Thank Victor for all you made bright and beautiful and possible.

VIctor was my favorite colleague, I was just searching for him and learned this tragic news. We became friends outside of work and when I was suddenly paralyzed, he and Steve came to see me in the nursing home -- which I survived to leave, bolstered by his good energy and strength. His departure is the world's loss. I loved that he dug jazz and that he enabled me to be my full self. He had admirable esthetics, great good taste and was so warm and inviting and fun to be around. I am writing this as I have just learned that he is no longer here. I will miss him. My profound condolences to all his beloveds on this enormous loss, far too soon. Wishing you all comfort and solace.
